Magnetic Shielding

Magnetic Interaction in Arrays

When reed relays are stacked closely together on a PCB (e.g., in a matrix), the magnetic field from one relay’s coil can interfere with its neighbor. This “Magnetic Cross-Talk” can cause a relay to fail to close (if the adjacent field opposes it) or close unexpectedly.

Mu-Metal Shielding

MiRelay employs Mu-Metal screens in our MSIP and VSIP series. Mu-Metal is a nickel-iron alloy with extremely high magnetic permeability. It captures the magnetic flux lines and contains them within the relay package, preventing interaction.

This allows relays to be mounted side-by-side with zero spacing gap, maximizing PCB density.
