Nowadays, more and more instruments are used in locations away from conventional power sources. These devices are battery powered only, so any electronic components used must consume very little power in order to extend working time.

Why Reed Relays?

Reed relays are uniquely suited for these applications due to their hermetic construction:

  • Harsh Environments: The contacts of the reed switch are sealed in a glass body. This makes them very air tight and not affected by environmental factors such as dust and water vapor.
  • Insulation: Excellent insulation properties between contacts and coils, and between open contacts.
  • Contact Resistance: Extremely low and stable, providing for the wide bandgap requirements of the load circuit.

Coil Control & Latching Technology

In terms of coil control loops, the required control load power is in the mW range. We offer high coil resistances in the Micolite relay range to minimize current draw.

Magnetically Maintained (Latching) Relays:

For ultimate power savings, we offer latching relays. In this design, a two millisecond pulse is used to close the contacts in a sequence of closures, and a two millisecond pulse in the opposite direction is used to open them. This minimizes power consumption, consuming zero power during static states, thus saving battery power.
